This site seriously needs some work, which is why some of us, who once upon a time used to work on it almost obssessively, are planning a change.

What we need are the following:

A) Publicity
B) Contributors
C) Readers

In short, what we need is for this blog to be known by many in the shortest amount of time possible.

We’re also considering changing the Sentral’s policy from something like a “webzine” to just an RNR for short, random stuff. Echoing Syuk’s post, we shall now capitalise on novelty, ie YouTube videos, random jokes, the things we get from email forwards, random pictures, et cetera (though, our cite-and-credit policy remains in tact for written works). Not quite a total revamp, but old posts will be removed, and this blog will get a makeover.

Cast your votes, and offer what help you’d like to give, in the comments section. Gather your random group of people, and hopefully we can have this site up and running again as soon as possible. We need to know if anyone cares about this website anymore, because if things don’t turn out for the better, unfortunately we may have to close down in the next few months.

Salam!

If you want to show your support for the sentral, then please do use our banners below! There are two versions - English, and Malay.Or, a better method of promotion, is for you to put this banner up in your Friendster profile and do all those bulletin-sending things that only Friendster-using people can know and appreciate! The admins do not actively use Friendster, so we won’t be of help there and would need your support.

The banners below are both in gif format, and take up less than 100kb of space. Help promote this blog - show your support!

Our thanks in advance!

***

General Policy of Blog Content

Articles should :

  1. Be legible (ie no messenger language) and understandable
  2. Contain adequate substance
  3. Have a clear, non-ambiguous title
  4. Be of average reading quality (length is not a factor)
  5. Be family-friendly

Articles may not contain the following elements :

  1. Material illegal in Malaysia or within breach of Blogger.com’s Terms of Agreement
  2. Material that is excessively offensive to the main target audience, being Maresmartians (and all related groups of majority)
  3. Sexually explicit writing/visual or any wanton references to the genitalia and/or related anatomy
  4. False or unfounded information
  5. Overtly subversive/biased political critiques
  6. Ambiguous religious opinions and/or religious opinions that require sufficient authority on the writer’s part
  7. Full excerpts of other writers’ works, unless they are news articles, provided a clear link to the original article is given
  8. Xenophobic/unjustfully discriminative opinions directed at any individual, group or entity
  9. Excessive use of abbreviations or messenger language
  10. Announcements*

*Announcements are accepted as long as they are clearly marked with the statement “This is a temporary post” at the bottom, and are temporal in nature.

The above elements are open to debate and discussion in their interpretation but the final word of the administration is exactly that - final.

Please be assured that we try to mantain a policy embracive of free speech and will not censor post content unless they are within breach of our guidelines. As such, blog posts do not go through moderation before posting.

However, the Admins and the Editors reserve the right to edit blog posts that are in breach of the policy. The Admins also reserve the right to remove any article deemed out-of-line or inappropriate for the blogtal, regardless of whether the rules have been appropriately elaborated beforehand or not.

All articles should be of at least average reading quality (a long article does not necessarily mean better, nor otherwise - length is not a factor).

In case you were wondering, we do tolerate/accept the following :

  1. Mild swear swords
  2. Minor and common abbreviations (e.g. etc, yg, wbt and such)
  3. Mixed and/or informal language
  4. Articles of critical thought
  5. Personal stories

Regardless of whether or not an article has been edited, contributors still remain 100% responsible for the articles they submit and the Administrators and Editors should not be made liable for any reason.

On Socio-political and Religious Articles

Articles of religious opinions should remain free of sectarian bias, must be in line with mainstream Sunni opinion, and should work, at most, only as a light reminder, rather than a collection of too many heavy themes. While we acknowledge the fact that some issues need to be addressed to and by the public, the administration mantains that this blogtal is not the appropriate medium for such advocacy. Otherwise, religious articles should also remain free of group- and/or person-bashing, and should adopt a polite, straight-forward tone of writing. Sarcasm is only allowed in small amounts, or in the case of mild satire.

Socio-political articles should remain only mildly biased in tone and content. Rather than present the opinions in a manner that is offensive to persons or groups, writers should be wary of readers’ sensitivities and present those opinions in a matured, objective, open-minded manner that encourages friendly debate. Writers are also encouraged to adopt a policy of “agreeing to disagree with the opponent” when writing, and advocate the issue at hand in a non-aggressive and non-provocative way.

We would like to emphasize that the Sentral is purely a blogtal cum online magazine for ex-students of Maresmart, and should not be used as a platform for the advocacy of political opinions.

Remember, freedom is a responsibility.

***

Policy of Post Segregation by Semi-arbitrary Means

Two consecutive posts should have a gap of a minimum of three days between each publication (the days are counted on the date of the physical publication itself, not the dates as written in the posts).

However,

Exceptions are made if the preceding post has 7 comments or more, or if one date within that gap of three days is of particular significance to the succeeding post (eg. National Day, Eid Fitr, someone’s birthday, etc), or if the preceding post is an announcement, whereby a gap of only two days is required.

The purpose of this new policy is to provide enough time for our writers to receive anonymous readership and probably feedback in the form of comments to their articles or personal work, while also ensuring that all posts (deemed as site updates) are more evenly and systematically spaced out throughout a given month.

***

Policy of Content Originality

Articles must be the original work of the contributor. However, contributors are allowed to quote excerpts from other blogs if permission is given by original blogger or if no copyright infringement ensues.

Contributors are still obliged to provide their own commentary pertaining to the subject matter, and blog quotes must be excerpts only, and not a copy of the full original article.

***

Policy of Equal Scrutiny

All posts will be subjected to relatively equal content quality scrutiny by the Administrators and Editors, regardless of the status of the poster (be they peers, seniors, juniors, established writers, royalty, or even teachers). We don’t vouche to be persons free of bias, but we do try. As such, polite protests are welcomed by the contributors. However, any final word from our party should be respected.

***

Policy of Open Comments

All comments - regardless of provocative content - will never be deleted by the admins unless things really blow out of proportions, ie fights. However, this policy of non-deletion applies to non-anonymous comments only. Anonymous comments with intolerably provocative content will be deemed as needless trouble makers and deleted.

***

Policy of Open Invitation

We allow non-Maresmartian writers to contribute material for this blogtal. However, all materials can only be forwarded through our e-mail. Works will be fully credited.

Maresmart Sentral is always looking for dedicated contributors or permanent bloggers for this group blog - and you do not need to be an ex-Maresmartian to do so! There is no set frequency for your posting, but contributing at least once every two months will be most appreciated. Contributors can post entries on any bloggable subject - personal accounts, articles of thought, works of art, poetry - just about anything.

We have an e-mail address where you can send in your articles or contributions directly to the administrators. Alternatively, you can also choose to become a permanent contributor to this blog with access to posting facilities. A prerequisite to becoming a permanent contributor is that you must be a Maresmartian. However, regular non-Maresmartian contributors may also become a permanent contributor through the majority’s consent.

Before becoming a contributor, you are most encouraged to read our Policies of Blog Content Control. To become a permanent contributor, please register with this blog first and then inform us of your interest at our email:

1. Get the right browser.
Use up-to-date and commonly used browsers:
Firefox 2 - for Windows XP, Mac OS X, Linux
  Safari 2.0 - for Mac OS X
Internet Explorer 7 - for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003
You might have computer system administrators who are so reluctant to maintain the computers at your organization and the internet cafes you visit. For that case, you may find Firefox Portable that can sit in your flash drive and run safely on any Windows XP environment very helpful.1

2. Bigger is better.
Sometimes, it is your screen resolution that makes everything on a website look too big to fit the screen. Use the optimum screen resolution. Most modern displays support screen resolution higher than 800×600. If your display can’t seem to have at least that, maybe it’s time to get bigger screen. This image would help to determine your screen resolution and compare it with computer display standards.

2. Help to improve.
Web designers are geek in nature being everything they created is ultimately the best at their own eyes. You can help them to improve browsing experience of yourself and other users by giving suggestions, recommendations and references of how you want the website to look and function.

1Whoever suggesting the use of Firefox Portable on one of our Blogger blogs, please surface for credit to be given
